The Trip to Bethlehem reveals that the traditional Christmas story has a deeper meaning than we might have imagined. The basics are familiar—the stable, the babe in the manger, the shepherds, the wise men following a star. But Hypatia Hasbrouck takes it further.
Every character in the story, every animal, object, or place has a metaphysical, symbolic meaning that represents a part of our consciousness. From King Herod’s ego to Mary’s purity, each of us embodies aspects of the people and elements of the Nativity. The trip to Bethlehem is the interior journey we take to discover and develop the Christ that was born in each of us.
A journey is an important mythical symbol for the process of transformation. On her first trip to Bethlehem, Hypatia Hasbrouck had to take the long way around because of political conflict in the region. Later she noticed that most of us take a long, complicated route on our mystical journey to inner peace. Her book provides a map marked with milestones as we seek the true birthplace of the Christ.
The book is in three parts.
- 1. Hasbrouck first explains the origins of the Christmas story as we know it. It grew from two very different stories that appear in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, blended together with a few modern embellishments thrown in.
- 2. She uses that traditional story to explain the metaphysical meaning of each character, place, animal, and object.
- 3. Finally she explores the interior journey we take to Bethlehem, basing stages of the journey on 12 inner powers, the divine attributes within each of us. She includes affirmations, scripture, and meditations for each stage.
This book will bring a new awareness to your Christmases as the story becomes your own.
