Johnnie is thrilled when he receives a trumpet for his 7th birthday. He can’t wait to play it, and he does—loudly—before he learns anything about music. He is so eager to play that his trumpet drowns out the other instruments in the band at school. Rev. Sheila McKeithen, J.D., is the senior minister of the Universal Centre of Truth for Better Living in Kingston, Jamaica (uctruthjamaica.org), and is the first elected president of the Universal Foundation for Better Living (ufbl.org), a branch of the New Thought spiritual movement.
A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, McKeithen was a practicing attorney at the height of her legal career when she received the call to ministry. She relinquished her position as an assistant attorney general for the state of Florida to minister in Kingston, Jamaica, for what started as a six-month assignment and has been there ever since. She is also president of the Johnnie Colemon Theological Seminary.
