The Unity spiritual movement began in 1889 with the publication of a magazine named Modern Thought. The title changed a few times before founders Charles and Myrtle Fillmore decided on Unity magazine in 1891. The format and style of the publication changed many times over the years, but for more than 130 years, Unity Magazine helped readers deepen their spiritual journey and live more joyfully.

In 2024, Unity Magazine merged with the national magazine Spirituality + Health. Unity revised the name of the merged publication to Spirituality & Health: A Unity Publication. Editors from both magazines now work together to create the lively, unpredictable, and never-boring publication that blends the best of both magazine traditions.
